The task therapy is using therapeutic exercises with a concrete objective in order to provide at the patient the ability to perform usual daily movement. It facilitates neural plasticity and acquisition or reacquisition of impairment skills.
It is important to consider progression in task therapy to ensure the continued progression of neural plasticity over time. Without sufficient task demands in association with patient’s progression, the system is not placing under sufficient loading to maximize neural plasticity.
Some research indicates that most recovery after stroke is seen in the first few months, with plateau after approximately one year. On the contrary, therapeutic intervention has been shown to be effective 6 years after a stroke.
